Project Pack 12 Review

Review – Project Pack 12

Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas along with their illustrious team at Zentangle headquarters, create wonderful Zentangle art packs several times per year. Project Pack 12 was originally released in December 2020. I was super busy at the end of 2020 and did not have time to work through the creative process presented in this renaissance art pack. So here we are at the end of 2021 and I have finally finished creating the amazing art tiles.

Project Pack Supplies

This pack is filled with wonderful renaissance Zentangle tiles in all shapes and sizes. Pens, pencils and tortillons are normal fodder in the packs, but this one also includes a pot of Lascaux gold gouache paint and a #4 paint brush.

Day 1-3

On the first day of this art pack, I struggled with the Bronx Spear pattern and needed to practice the process. I love the Phi-sized tile so I decided to try it combined with Mooka.

Day two included one of my favorite tangles, crazy Huggins. Day three was a little different and included the gold gouache. The repeating pattern with its Hollibaugh style created circular drama. I goofed drawing the pattern the first time and ended up with a very pleasing alternate design.

Day 4-6

Day four started us off with a 3Z tile and a sweet Sandswirl pattern. Maria led us through in an interesting interwoven pattern with lots of shading and highlights for day five. Day six was my favorite of the whole project pack. Four little Bijous and the pattern Pepper in the shape of heart.

Day 7-9

Day seven was Rick’s chance to show off his favorite tangles, Paradox and Flux. On day eight we started with a pre-strung Zendala tile and promptly ignored the string. Maria loves to take us on an interesting journey exploring design elements, coffering, shading and highlights. Finally, day nine was an exploration of a twist on Purk.

 Day 10-12

3Z tiles are wonderful for playing with new designs. They are just the right size for a monotangle and gold gouache! Rick shared his take on Drawings with lots of contrasting highlights and dark brown shading on day eleven. The Project Pack ended with another spectacular Maria Thomas Mooka exploration.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this renaissance gold enhanced Project Pack. I had a chance to focus on the exciting contrast that naturally develops on the tan tiles. Strategic use of white and brown chalk, and a bit of graphite created the light and dark drama that makes these tiles stand out in my collection.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
