Project Pack 21 Review

Project Pack 21 Review

I always look forward to a project pack when it is released by Zentangle™ Inc. This project pack was particularly fun because it introduced the concept of genus of tangles of a botanical nature.

Rick said, “As tanglers, we will come together and plant some seeds. We will nurture them and watch them grow.”

We all had the opportunity to play with familiar tangles to give them a botanical frame. This showed me that I can look at tangles in new way. Tangles are just a suggestion of their potential future by the artist who deconstructed it. As a new fellow artist, I can take the suggestion and apply my own imagination to potentially heights.

Let’s look at how these tangles were morphed into botanicals.

Day 1 - Lady Diva’s Slipper

One of the things I loved about this project pack is the creativity that went into the descriptions, virtues and places they grow. Diva Dance is one of those tangles that can go into any tile and adds drama to the over all design.

Day 2 - Hanging Paradox

The virtues of this botanical are strength, beauty, inner knowing, and patience. Patience for sure because paradox is one of those gently relaxing tangles full of repeating lines.

Day 3 - Squidahlia

Juices from this blossom make mood enhancing ink, interesting. This botanical is a combination of the tangles Squid, Purk and Shattuck.

Day 4 - Mytho-Temps

This underwater botanical has many qualites and is good to use in our art as a feature or a filler.

Day 5 - Singing Mrth Blossom

This botanical is one of my favorites of this project pack. It combines Mrth, Inderella, Fescu, Scena, Mooka, and Sampson into a pleasing design that I will use in future art projects.

Day 6 - Rambling Arukas

This new botanical makes me think of using it to wrap a gift package. Its virtures are insight, joy, connection, and growth.

Day 7 - Fee Fi Fo Foundabout

Strength and curiosity are the virtures of this wonderful botanical. I really love drawing Foundabout, it has amazing versitility and can be enhanced in so many ways.

Day 8 - Thorny Wishing Well Weed

The Thorny Wishing Well Weed grows where the sidewalk ends and the forest begins. It is never to be picked, touched or photgraphed. If you do, your wish will not come true!

After the first eight days, the Zentangle team introduced bonus days giving us a suggestion of two tangles to combine into our own new botanical.

Bonus Challenge Day 1 - Rixty and Cresent Moon

With Rixty and Crescent Moon I created Ra-Moon Flower. Its virtures are trust and beauty.

Bonus Challenge Day 2 - Ing and Aquafleur

Love and kindness are the virtues of Aqua-Ing-Knot which only blooms in February. Of course, I couldn’t help adding Triquetra knots to the Ing stem.

Bonus Challenge Day 3 - Ravel and Cubine

RaCu makes me think of sunflowers which is my favorite flower. They are like rays of sunshine spilling out of my garden beds. This new botanical is made up of Ravel and Cubine.

Bonus Challenge Day 4 - Toodles and Marasu

Mara-Tood is a combination of Marasu and Toodles which makes a lovely botanical that looks like a lollypop.

In Conclusion, I really enjoyed this project pack. It opened my eyes to new possibilities for using tangles. I plan to play with this idea a bit more in the future.
